From 23 to 26 September 2025, Gdańsk will become the center of the European railway industry, hosting the 16th edition of the International Railway Fair TRAKO. It is the largest event of its kind in this part of Europe and the second biggest railway industry fair on the continent—an event that strengthens its international standing year after year. The upcoming edition promises to be record-breaking, with 680 exhibitors from 29 countries already confirmed.
Poland, situated at the crossroads of transport routes linking the European continent from north to south and east to west, today plays a key role in improving European connectivity and strengthening Europe’s resilience. This presents an opportunity for suppliers of railway technologies, materials and components for new line construction, rolling stock manufacturers, and engineering companies from Belgium, Italy, France, Slovenia, Portugal, and Romania.
The leading theme of the opening debate will be “Competitiveness and Financing of Railways in the European Union”, which will address, among other issues, the potential of European railways in decarbonizing the economy and implementing key EU policies. Financing will also be the focus of the 5th Infrastructure Debate organized by the Ministry of Infrastructure, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe, the Land Transport Chamber of Commerce, the Railway Institute, and the PKP Group, as well as the debate “EU Funding for Transport Projects – Plans, Challenges, and Risks” organized by the Center for EU Transport Projects.
During the fair, participants will also be able to take part in an event dedicated to the future of rail freight—the “Rail Freight Forum” organized by the ProKolej Foundation—as well as in the debate organized by the PKP Group, “The Passenger Comes First”. Experts, decision-makers, and industry leaders will gather in Gdańsk to discuss key challenges such as the green transformation of railway transport, integration of European networks, securing the potential and capacity of the materials and components supply market for railway infrastructure construction, and the future of infrastructure investment financing.
Both industry visitors and railway enthusiasts (with the final day of the fair open to the public) will be able to explore impressive exhibitions arranged on the tracks and outdoor areas. There, the latest rolling stock, infrastructure solutions, and technologies that shape the daily development of railway transport in Europe will be on display. Among the more than 60 companies presenting exhibits outdoors will be, among others: Track Tec, Newag, Alstom, Stadler, and Siemens.
The highlight of the first day of the fair will be the TRAKO Gala, combined with the presentation of awards in the most important industry competitions. The partner of this year’s Gala is BUDIMEX. Both the Gala and the Opening Ceremony will take place in the newly built AMBEREXPO hall.
The final day of the fair will be dedicated to education and careers in the railway sector—namely, the 5th edition of the Education and Career Day.
In addition, TRAKO will mark the beginning of celebrations for the centenary of Polish State Railways (PKP) and the 200th anniversary of railways worldwide. The fair coincides with a symbolic date in railway history—on 27 September 1825, the Stockton–Darlington railway line was officially opened. Both the 200th anniversary of world railways and the 100th anniversary of PKP will provide an opportunity not only to showcase technical and organizational achievements but also to reflect on the history and the future of railways.
